Alternate History: Israeli-Hong Kong handover

Description

In a world where Israel was a great power beyond China, and where China was swallowed by Israeli power, (see televisionadscom.deviantart.co…), the British wanted to return the territory in 1997.

In 1979, after the Premier of the Chinese Autonomous Region(s) found a Treaty which leaves the rent of Hong Kong until 1997, the premier began asking the Israeli government. The Israeli government wanted to begin talks with the United Kingdom to return sovereignty of the territory, however furious that Hong Kong could risk ending up "Jewish". Another plan is to make Hong Kong with "fully autonomy", to be treaty like it's actually a nation (Just like our timeline).

There were also risks involved. Hong Kong was worried about additional risks for large-scale infrastructure projects like the MTR, and a new airport outside the Kai Tak area. The Israeli government promised to give Hong Kong special status, at which the region is treated as a fully autonomous nation, like Korea and Mecca.

In the mid-1980s, 13 years from 1997 the UK/Israeli Republic signed a "Israeli-British Joint Declaration", with effect from July 1st, 1997 the Israeli government will begin taking over Hong Kong peacefully under "one country, two systems". Even though Israel is a democratic nation, Hong Kong's economy and system will still be separated from the Israeli one.

Meanwhile a new Hong Kong International Airport was being planned. However after land reclamation began the Israeli Government funded the colony with 5 billion Israeli new Shekels (ILS). Thus this made the new airport open early than in our timeline.

It is now 1997. The timebomb is ticking. Constructors were worried that the Israeli government will pull the plug on the project, however Israel funded the project with 1000 more Israeli New Shekels. The airport opened in September 1997, 3 months after HK was returned to Israel.

Overnight on July 1st, 1997 the British Union Jack along with the HK colonial flag raises down with God Save the Queen, followed by silence and the playing of Israel's anthem, "Hatikvah" with the raising of Israel's flag and the HKSAR flag. Like our timeline the first Chief Executive was Tung Chee-hwa. The Inauguration of the new Hong Kong government took place overnight and new HK passports were issued.

To avoid the religions of Hong Kong, like Buddhism ruin the Jewish nation, the HKSAR is also separate to avoid Buddhism crippling Israel's main religion: Jewish.

Today, Hong Kong is a capitalist and it's a great city. Many tourists come to HKIA every year even Israelis. In this timeline, there were no Mainlanders making a mess in HK as China doesn't exist. Hong Kong has high living standards and expats come here too.

Just like this, confirmation from the Israeli government was required to make political parties in Hong Kong. Today, only 10% want Hong Kong to be independent while 21% want it to return to British rule. However, the Israeli Government warns Hong Kongers not to advocate for independence (but hey, Israel is good!)
